Last day of Term 1...
Today the children chose the activities for Discovery Time: Cork boats, plastercine, Lego, Spinning Tops and making an Obstacle Course.
We were again working on Managing Self and in particular having a "Can Do" attitude. There was lots of problem solving and trying extra hard at the obstacle course.
I hope you all have a fantastic holiday and I will see you back in Room 3 for the start of Term 2.
Welcome to our blog. We are a class of year 0-1 students (5-6 yr olds) at Hope Primary School in New Zealand. Our teacher is Mrs Ross and this blog is a journal of our learning experiences while we are here in Room 3.

Discovery Time Week 10
Wow week 10 already. Its been such a busy term and we have missed out on a few weeks of Discovery Time because there have been other things going on at school. So today we were pleased to get back to doing what we love best.
Our activities were: Construction with boxes, Making music with a glockenspiel, Hopscotch, Domino tracks, and Pretend baking.
As with all of our Discovery sessions this term we have been focusing on the life skill of Managing Self. So this week we were learning how to have a "Can Do" attitude and to persevere if things get hard. There was lots of persevering going on when it came to making domino tracks as they kept getting knocked over and had to be started again....very frustrating!

Water Survival Skills at the Aquatic Centre
Hope School has been taking part in a water safety programme at the Aquatic Centre in Richmond. This week and part of next week we are going to the pool every day. Today we were taught about jumping into deep water and what to do if this happens while wearing a life jacket.
Have a look at our photos..sorry some of these are very blurry due to the action shot!
As young children we don't always get the opportunity to experience really deep water so this was a great learning experience for us all.

Two new students for Hope School??
Today some chickens came to Hope School. I wonder why
they came? Maybe they might want to learn and read and write or they want to
talk or make biscuits with room 3. I like chickens because they peck bread.
Lincoln
Today the chickens came from Hollys.
Stella
Today we had visitors. I don’t know why they came to
Hope School. They were chickens. The chickens had feathers.
Edie
Today we saw chickens. I don’t know why they came to
Hope School. Maybe they wanted to learn to write. They were pecking near the
gate.
Eddy
Today some chickens came to school. One chicken had no
feathers on its neck. I don’t know where they came from. Maybe they came to
learn how to talk like people.
Eva
Today two visitors came to Hope School. I know what
kind they are. They are shavers…Did you know that?
“I do”, said Preston, I know all about shavers”.
But I didn’t listen to him I was too busy. I shouted
“Cock-a-doodle-doo!” I was pretending to be a rooster. “Cock-a doodle-doo”, it
was funny. I laughed and laughed.
Adam
Baaawk, bawk, bawk baaawk. Two ginormous chickens came
to hope school. “I want to stroke one,” I said. But it zoomed super fast like
flash.
