Discovery Time Term 2 week 3

Today we had a pyjama day....The children all came to school wearing their PJ's and we made pancakes as one of our Discovery Time activities. Oh Yeah!
The other activities this morning were: Playing with the train set, marble pictures, balloon target, and moulding goo. Obviously pancakes and eating them were a big hit. Noah's Mum (Laura) came in to help make these. There were some very yummy toppings!
Yes there was a lot of sugar consumed today.....
Noah and his family leave for Alaska for a couple of months soon so this was a bit of a special day for him and his mum. Thanks Laura for your help. Noah we will miss you, but I am sure you will send us some photos and keep in touch. 😀 😀 😀

Hat Sculptures

As part of our sculptures focus this term Katherine helped us to create some hats.
There were some very creative children.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

This week we have had Constable Charlotte Donaldson at school helping to teach the KOS programme.
We learnt all about touch...Touch we like, Touch that hurts and a confusing Touch that we want to stop. We all practised  what to say and do if someone touches us or does something to us that we don't like.

"STOP IT I DONT LIKE IT"..........WALK AWAY........TELL AN ADULT .....

We have also been learning that it is not safe to go off with someone we don't know and that we should always tell our parents, teacher or someone we can trust if someone tries to get us to do something we are unsure of.

Hope School meets Rod Dixon

Do you know who Rod Dixon is??

For 17 years, Rod Dixon was one of the best runners in the World. He is an Olympic Medalist, two time World Cross Country Championship Medalist, and the 1500m Champion of the United States, France, Great Britain, and New Zealand. And, to this day, his victory in the 1983 New York City Marathon remains one of the most dramatic finishes the event has ever seen.
Rod is now a passionate advocate of the worldwide children's health and fitness movement. He knows that most kids around the world are not getting the physical exercise and nutrition they need. Rod is keen to get children experiencing the true value (and fun!) of exercise and nutrition. His message is aimed at encouraging children to develop positive life-long habits.
Later in the term we will be looking more into "Healthy Living" so this was a great introduction for us to re-visit later on. Rod showed us some video footage of his win at the 1983 New York Marathon, he talked about healthy living, and we all had a training run with him.

Discovery Time Term 2 week 1

Our "Life Skill" at school this term is 'Relating to Others' and our Value is 'Caring'.... with that in mind our focus at Discovery Time today was to make sure we include others.
Today our activities were...stacking cups, leaf rubbings, water bead fun, flip boards and making sculptures with play dough.
Lots of working together and including other people was going on at the cup stacking table...

Sculptures

We are going to be making a range of sculptures at school this term. Today we learnt that a sculpture is a piece of art that you can look at from many angels...so we discovered that our drawings from last term are not sculptures...because you can't see them from the back.
Take a look at our first attempt of sculptures using shells and stones and some glue.
