Yesterday it was so hot and sunny when we went swimming...today we went swimming in the rain... but the water was so warm!

Yey Time to cool off!

What a great way to spend a hot afternoon at school.... in a swimming pool with your friends from Room 4.

Our Last Discovery Day For This Year

Our 2014 school year is fast coming to an end...only one week of school left before our Christmas Summer holidays. Hard to imagine that some countries in the world are heading for a white Christmas and we are having beautiful sunny weather. Anyway take a look at our activities this week...some activities like playing with the yo yo's, making paper chains, and Father Christmas's didn't make it to the slide show sorry. Bit of a distracted  photographer!

Shapes, Shapes Everywhere!

We have been looking at some shapes and we have discovered that shapes of all types and sizes are all around us....Today we took to the playground with the iPads to see what we could find.

Retelling our reading books using Tellagami on the iPads

Some lovely Tellagami's from Harry, Skylah, Rylie, Kayla, Hunter and Seb.

Pirates

Everyone at school has been practising for our school production "Pirates of the Curry Bean".
We are going to perform it on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Room 3 children are 'Ship Rats' in the show but we just couldn't help ourselves and got dressed up as pirates to do a dance that will be used as part of the credits for the show. The video of our dance will be posted here in a few days. Meanwhile take a look at us as pirates.

Annual A and P Show Creations

It's that time of year again... we all get to enter a decorated biscuit, a novelty fruit and vege creation, and a sand saucer into the A and P show.
What a fun filled day of imagination and creativity.
("I have to apologise....in all the excitement and busyness of the day, I forgot to take photos of the finished biscuits. I am so very sorry".)
Photos follow of the children working on their biscuits, the fruit/vege creations and their sand saucers.
You can pop along to the A and P Show, at the Richmond Show Grounds this weekend and view all the entries from Hope School, as well as other schools in our district. Enjoy!

This weeks activities for Discovery Time were:
Making clothes from newspaper, Fluffy soap foam, Making hairy Harry's (with grass seed), Marble tracks, and wood work.
Our focus for this session was to make sure we were using the equipment we were given properly...some of us need a bit more learning when scissors and saw's are involved!
But even so we had sooo much fun and created some amazing things!
     Take a look.

Athletics

On Monday 10th Nov we joined together with the juniors from Appleby School to take part in some athletics activities. The children, parents and teachers from Appleby came to Hope School where we enjoyed the activities together. This was a great opportunity for our children to meet children of the same age from another school.
And of course we had a lot of fun!!

Yet another amazing Discovery Time

This weeks activities during Discovery Time were:
making fruit kebabs, face painting, construction with boxes, cars in the sandpit, tea parties and making a rainbow fish.
We were again practising giving our friends new ideas to try when they are making and creating. Then we had to practise trying out these ideas that our friends suggested.
We are good at this now...but some of us have found that sometimes these ideas from friends, don't work, and we have to try something else. Great Learning.

Friday, October 31, 2014

Our Discovery Time Activities this week were: Water beads, Wood work, Dress ups, Making a pet shell, Puppets  and Making Tellagamis on the iPad.
We were practising suggesting new ideas to others and also trying out some ideas suggested by someone else. We did very well with this today and quite a few of us were able to make suggestions for our friends to try out.

Descriptive writing about the wind

Today at school there was a very strong, cold wind. This gave us a perfect opportunity to write using describing words in our writing. We went outside and felt the wind in our faces and then looked at a tree that was blowing in the wind. Here are some of our great stories...

It was cold outside. The tree looked like a monkey swinging it’s tail. The leaves were shaking.
Skylah

The wind was like a dolphin flying and felt like I was in magic land. It felt like a storm around my head. The tree was like an octopus.
Seraphina

The wind felt like an ice cube. It was cold.
The trees were waving around.
Noah

The wind was like a hurricane. The wind in the tree looked like a terrible monster.
Aaron

Our Discovery Activities this week were: Plastercine Sculptures, Making some Octopus, Painting with Leaves and Flowers,  a Giant Cardboard box, Frozen coloured ice Cubes, as well as Badminton...but it was a bit windy for the badminton today.
We were learning about giving other people new ideas to try out and also how to try new ideas suggested by others...We are still working on these skills....It is tricky when you are 5 to try things that other people suggest!!

Our Pirate Pictures

We used a clip on YouTube that showed us how to draw a pirate. It took us through 15 different steps until in the end we had drawn a great pirate...We surprised ourselves with our drawings, they were pretty good!
Then with a splash of pastel colour and some dye our pirates were finished.
Later this term we will be taking part in our school production "Pirates of The Curry Bean" I wonder if we will see any pirates like these? Best Viewed in Full Screen

Today we started looking at patterns. We had a look around our classroom to see if we could see any patterns there. Then we made a few of our own...

Lots to talk about after the Holidays

A duck and ducklings came to school!!

Today when Ms Shaw and I were doing some work at school.... (as you do when you're a Teacher and it's school holidays). We saw some very cute little ducklings and their mother. There were 14 little babies all wanting to have a look at our classrooms. They wandered up Room 4's ramp and were looking pretty comfortable in the sun. We managed to show the mother duck the way out the gate and she took her babies to the paddock across the road. Oh so cute!
