Book Week at Hope School

This week we celebrated Book Week at Hope School.
Some of the activities included having visitors and authors coming in to read to us, making book crafts, activities with our buddies from other classes, visiting the TDC Library and our week ended today with a Book Character Dress -up.
Unfortunately our parade took part under some low fog conditions which was very unusual.
But we have had such an amazing week it didn't dampen our spirits.

I wonder if you are able to recognise who some of these book characters are??

Kiwisports at Wakefield School.

On Wednesday morning we joined a whole lot of other junior children from Wakefield, Appleby, Ranzau, and Brightwater schools, to take part in a range of fun sporting activities. These kind of days are great for trying new things and building friendships.

Discovery Time Week 6

This week during Discovery Time were were looking at the simple machine..levers. Many of our activities involved levers of some sort.

Water Safety and Kayak Fun

We have been learning how a life jacket can save our lives. We also learnt that other things can help keep us afloat in the water and how to be saved by holding onto a rope while getting pulled back to shore or a waiting boat.
Also we have been learning to paddle a kayak with our hands.

The TDC Library

About 3 times a term we visit the Tasman District Library in Richmond. It is a great time of sharing books together and learning about all the resources that the library has to offer.
We just love sitting with a book and having a look at it with our friends.

Room 3 and 4 visit McKee Reserve

Today we took a break from everyday school life and went for a trip to the beach.... The weather was perfect. We had a picnic lunch, had a walk in the native bush, played on the playground and looked in the rock pools. It was a very enjoyable day. Thank-you to our very supportive parents for taking the time out of your busy days to come with us.

Dominoes

We have been learning how to play dominoes. This is a great game for matching patterns. I hope the children can encourage their parents to have a game with them at home too.

Cicada's

We have been listening to the cicadas in the trees this week. We took a walk around the school to see if we could find them. (sorry no photos of our walk as I forgot to take the camera)
Anyway we found one cicada shell attached to a fence and took it back inside with us.  After looking at it and some other pictures of cicadas we wrote some stories about it.

Navarah

The next morning  Navarah  brought in some more cicada shells for us to look at. She also had one where the cicada had unfortunately died while shedding it's outer shell. So the green cicada was visible for us to see exactly how it would come out of the shell.
Very interesting. Thanks Navarah.
