More about Hope School in the Past

Hugh's mum (Greta) came to Hope School when she was younger. She came in to talk to us about what it was like when she was here...we learnt that Room 3 wasn't here when she attended Hope School either (just like what Mrs Hall said). The swimming pool was here and she did swimming lessons just like we do. Greta said they used to have a pot belly fire in her class and the children would use it to toast their sandwiches on for lunch. The children would also light the incinerator all by themsleves to burn the paper rubbish. Her favourite thing to do when she came here was to play in the trees. Some of us like to play in the trees too.
Thanks Greta, it was lovely to hear about your experience at Hope School as a student.

Discovery Time with Room 4

We joined in with Room 4 today for our weekly Discovery Time and were treated to a visit from a real 'potter.' Dave works with clay every day and he brought his pottery wheel in to demonstrate how clay, like the stuff we used last week, can be turned into beautiful bowls and other creations. Anyone that wanted also got to have a go at working with a piece of clay on the wheel.
Thanks Dave it was very inspiring having you here today.
The other activities we had today were...making huts, puppets, clay and tooth pick sculptures, marble track, and playing musical instruments.
We were working on giving compliments and it was lovely to see many people giving and receiving compliments throughout our morning.

Learning about Hope School in the Past

Did you know that Room 3 hasn't always been here at Hope School?
When Mrs Hall started teaching at Hope School the place where our classroom is was just grass. The only class here was Room 1....and did you know that blackboards and chalk were used instead of whiteboards, iPads weren't even invented, our playground wasn't there, and where the library is now was a small toilet block.
We were lucky to have Mrs Hall come in and talk to us this week about what it was like when she first came to our school as a teacher. Thanks Mrs Hall it was very interesting.
(By the way it was also whacky Wednesday... hence the crazy hair)

Discovery Time week 7

This week our focus during Discovery Time was on showing respect to ourselves, others and school equipment. Room 3 did an awesome job of showing respect in  all these contexts.

Thank-you

This week we had our Celebration Assembly, where the children were able to showcase their learning to an audience. It was wonderful to see that every child from Room 3 had someone who had taken the time out of their busy lives to attend this assembly. I know the children love to see  you all there and look forward to sharing these times with you.
So thank you all very much for coming.

Term 2 Week 6 Discovery Time

This week we were looking again at 'working together' and 'negotiating' if we have a problem.
Our activities were. squirting water on the concrete, wood work, making an alien, threading, and drawing with stencils.

learning to throw a ball

We have been learning how to make a chest pass with the balls. It is quite tricky to catch these balls sometimes. We need to remember our "W" hand shape.

A visit to the Whakatu Marae

On Tuesday the 12th of June we had to come to school earlier than usual so we had plenty of time to travel into Nelson to spend the day at the Marae. It was an amazing day. I hope your children were able to tell you lots of things they learnt. There is a full slide show of the day on our school website...

Aliens...

Today we read a book called........

We talked about what kind of alien we would be and what we might fly around space in. Plus we thought of some food we would bring to the alien picnic

I am a bang-a-dong. I have a boot as a spaceship. My boot thinks crazy. My head is a balloon…. “See I’m over the moon”. What will you be?
Miller

I am an alien. I am sloppy. When somebody puts their finger through me their finger goes straight through my sloppy body. My spaceship looks like sparkly blue and coming out of the back comes fiery watermelons. The fire is colourful.
Hugh

I am an alien. I am all colourful and sparkles come out of my eyes. My rocket is pink. When my rocket swoops through space, sparkles come out. I brang biscuits and they taste like watermelons.
Anais

I have a pink rocket. It has blue fire. It has a sloppy jelly.
Izabelle

I am an alien that lives on a planet for the alien. It was fun on the planet.
Ava-May

My alien is green.
Fletcher

My alien is blue.
Louis

My alien is red.
Ethan

My alien is yellow.

Discovery Time Term 2 week 5

Today we made milo's and sat in the cafe, finished our paper sculptures, made puppet shows, made newspaper creations and played with the blocks.
We were learning to work together and had a go at some negotiating skills.

Healthy Living

Along with exercise...... like cross country running...it is also very important to eat a balanced diet. We have been looking at the types of food to eat plenty of and the types of food that are best kept for treats. Today we cut pictures out of magazines to glue onto plates.
There are more plates of Healthy food than Treat foods which might  mean you should eat twice as much healthy and half as much treats?

Cross Country 2017

On Wednesday the whole school travelled out to Rabbit Island to take part in our annual Cross Country event. It was a beautiful day and the children were awesome. They all tried their very best which was great to see and they cam buzzing past me with a smile on their faces. Way to Go Room 3!
