We have been looking at the ANZAC's

As ANZAC Day approaches we have been spending some time discussing what this means to us and what we can learn from the past. We were so lucky today to have John come and share his collection of war memorabilia with us. We joined with Room 4 to listen to lots of interesting stories and to learn some more about being a soldier.

Discovery Time Week 7

This weeks Discovery Time activities were: painting, craft creations, water beads, cars in the sandpit, and peeling apples.
We were learning how to give each other compliments....we need a lot more time on this! We were also learning to manage our selves when using things, eg. make sure we left enough equipment for other people to use. Sadly this is our last discovery session for this term as next Friday is a holiday.

Dancing Dancing Dancing!!

We have had so much fun with our dance sessions this term...
The children have learnt lots of new moves and have probably already shown you some of them.
The whole school will be putting on a performance showing our dances next Thursday at 2pm.
So if you can come along you are sure to be impressed.

Kayak Fun

We have also been having fun in the kayaks in our school pool. We were learning how to paddle the kayak with our hands and how to steer it around the pool.

Water Safety Activities

This week is our last week of swimming lessons in our school pool. So we have been doing a few different water activities.
We looked at wearing lifejackets, how to put them on properly, and when we might need to wear one. Also, what to do if we were tipped out of a boat or a canoe and how to kick on our backs while wearing out lifejacket to get to a place of safety.

Learning how to play 'Naughts and Crosses'

At school on Friday the children learnt how to play 'Naughts and Crosses'. There is a lot of thinking involved in this game.... Problem Solving... even trying a Strategy that could help. They all enjoyed it and then some proceeded to ask me when we were going to do maths...little did they know they had already done it.

Discovery Time week 5

This week we had our all time favourite Discovery Time activity.... Marble Tracks...
While creating marble tracks there is soooo much learning going on for these little children, and it is also so much fun. Squeals of delight filled the area outside our classroom today as the marbles came out the other end of a tube or.....got stuck. The children were busy thinking things through and sorting it out for themselves.
The other activities today were , painting, puppet shows, making crafts with toilet rolls and pretend picnics. We were so good at making good choices and sharing the equipment.

A Butterfly Emerges

Today during Discovery Time we saw a butterfly emerge from it's chrysalis. This is something that not everybody gets to see... because it usually happens so fast that you miss it.
So it was a very special event in Room 3.

Every morning we sing in Room 2

We are so lucky at Hope School to have Mr Connolly in Room 2 who is a master on the guitar. We in Room 3 get the benefit of it as we join in with Mr Connolly's class to sing songs in the mornings. I often find the children in Room 3 (and myself) humming or singing the tunes to themselves throughout the day. The power of music!!
Thanks Mr Connolly for having us in your room and sharing your musical talent with us, we love it.
