Today was a day of baking and making. We started off by baking easter Bunny biscuits and ended our day making Bunny ears and painting faces. What a great looking bunch of Easter Bunnies we are. Happy Holidays everyone.... See you back at school in two weeks.
Welcome to our blog. We are a class of year 0-1 students (5-6 yr olds) at Hope Primary School in New Zealand. Our teacher is Mrs Ross and this blog is a journal of our learning experiences while we are here in Room 3.

Buddies 2014
Today we met up with our buddies from Room 1. Throughout the year we get together with these buddies and share some of our learning experiences together. Sometimes we like to meet up with our buddies at playtimes too. When you are in Room 3 it is nice to have an older school child as a close friend. Room 1 Buddies make fantastic friends!

One of those very special times.....
Today for 'Show and Tell' Thomas showed us his Grandparents... these Grandparents live in England...
With the expert help of Thomas and his Mum we were able to Skype Granny and Grandad. We saw them up on the big screen in our classroom. This was so very amazing for the children in Room 3. It was 9am on Tuesday morning in our classroom and daylight outside but in England it was 10pm on Monday night and dark outside! Granny and Grandad took their Skype camera in England outside their doorway and showed us a very dark sky and we saw the moon! Then they showed us daffodils, tulips and bluebells....these are spring flowers. We showed them some Autumn leaves!
What a fabulous learning experience. Thomas and his Mum also showed us by using a torch why it was dark in England and why it was daylight here in NZ. So now we know when it is daytime here it is night time on the other side of the world. Very cool!!
Thanks Thomas for sharing your Granny and Grandad with us and thanks to Granny and Grandad for taking the time to help us with our learning about Autumn.

Lately we have been learning how to throw a small ball correctly. We started off with 'overarm' throwing and this week looked at the 'underarm' style. Matt has been coming in once a week to help us learn these skills. Thanks Matt we are really enjoying your lessons and are learning lots of new things.
To help us practise our underarm throws we played a game. We had to chose a lily pad (plastic mat) to stand on and all throw our bean bags into the hoop in the middle. The most we got in the hoop at one time was 8...we need a bit more practise.

Sharing our Writing
In Room 3 we are learning to use an app on our iPad called Tellegami. It is a lot of fun!
First you create a character and choose the types of clothing you want it to wear, then you choose a background. Once you are happy with how it looks you can record your voice and your character presents your recording. In this case we recorded a story we had written and "Hey Presto" we have a talking presentation of our story. There are a few other creative tools within the app that we will learn later. But for now we are having fun with this...
