We are so lucky at Hope School to have Mr Connolly in Room 2 who is a master on the guitar. We in Room 3 get the benefit of it as we join in with Mr Connolly's class to sing songs in the mornings. I often find the children in Room 3 (and myself) humming or singing the tunes to themselves throughout the day. The power of music!!
Thanks Mr Connolly for having us in your room and sharing your musical talent with us, we love it.
Welcome to our blog. We are a class of year 0-1 students (5-6 yr olds) at Hope Primary School in New Zealand. Our teacher is Mrs Ross and this blog is a journal of our learning experiences while we are here in Room 3.

Caterpillars... no longer
We have been watching our Monarch chrysalis for about 2 weeks now, waiting for them to become beautiful butterflies. Well this morning we had 3 separate chrysalis to keep a close eye on. They were bound to emerge from their chrysalis sometime today...
and yes they did but we didn't actually see any of them do their thing. All of a sudden we had 3 butterflies instead of 3 chrysalis..it happened so fast! Still very exciting for us all. We watched them dry their wings then we put the plant outside where the butterflies flew away. There are still 3 more butterflies to emerge from their chrysalis so maybe we will get to witness one of those.

A Book With No Pictures...
Chloe from room 4 came into our class today and read a book to us. It was a very funny book! It had no pictures but very funny words, and of course, because there were words in the book Chloe had to read all of them! She did a great job. Thanks Chloe, room 3 really enjoyed your book.

Discovery Time Week 4
This week at Discovery Time we could... play with the dress ups, make a cork boat, paint using water colours, create something with boxes, or use the screw drivers and spanners.
We were focusing on sharing the equipment we have and making good choices.
The Stepping Out Dance Programme.....
Hope School have been learning to dance. Our students are attending sessions once a week in our school library. The year 1-3 students attend these sessions together. Ezra and Dean are our dance tutors, they are fantastic instructors and the children are always keen to take part.
Through these dance skills students are also learning personal character development and that it is OK to make mistakes, "we can just keep trying". We are being instructed on to two specific dance types...Hip Hop and Paso Doble. Most of you will be familiar with Hip Hop. But maybe not the Paso Doble: This dance is a lively Spanish ballroom dance where we work with a partner. This music is famous for being played during the bullfighters' entrance to the ring.
Have a look at how we are going with our dance steps so far...
